School has always been stressful, and with the added weight of the covid-19 pandemic, the pressure put on students can feel like carrying boulders across an ever-moving finish line. Our group hopes to help lighten the load carried by students by implementing the School Sanctuary soundproof tent into school settings and help relieve stress built up in school life. Our group hopes to provide a sanctuary of safety and security in the ever-changing school landscape.
Our research was almost entirely on materials and how those materials affected sound. Our research helped us decide which materials would help provide proper soundproofing. The other part of our research was about what the tent could benefit from in a more technical sense. Such as, would sound canceling speakers be a better method of sound canceling then say building the tent out of materials with a high STC rating . We also researched different types of foam and fabric, and different techniques of layering materials to create soundproofing panels.
Prece-TENTS
Our group has worked for the last month to figure out a logical and achievable way to help kids in schools reduce their stress and feel safer and more relaxed in their school environment. And although we feel our work is already ripe with takeaways we feel that in order to truly get the value we want out of this project the next step would be to build a full-scale model of our School Sanctuary
Sound Proofing Flap Prototype.
